Kale Berry Smoothie

I drink smoothies all the time. It is one of the nicest things to add to your breakfast, and is deliciously good! Recently I’ve done some “research” on my favourite food blogs and of course, my all time favourite, foodgawker.com. Spinach seems to be a pretty trendy addition to smoothies to make a healthy “green” smoothie. They all claim that you can’t really taste it, but I was doubtful. Not having any spinach in my fridge I tried to think of other leafy greens to add. I was making Kale chips (recipe to follow) and had some leftover kale; and that’s when it hit me! Why not add kale to my smoothie? Well I did, and it was delicious!

With some simple ingredients you likely already have in your fridge, I suggest you drop everything you are doing and go ahead and make this smoothie.

What you will need:
2 cups kale (washed, chopped, and stems removed)
2 1/2 cups strawberries (washed and coarsely chopped)
2/3 cup raspberries
2/3 cup plain yoghurt
2/3 cup strawberry yoghurt
3/4 cup Orange Juice

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until you reach a desired thickness.
(recipe yields 1.25L)

Remember, no two smoothies are alike, and you can make substitutions like there’s no tomorrow. Choose what you like and figure out what works for you. You honestly cannot taste the kale, though I do heartily suggest brushing your teeth after drinking. You may find you have some seeds or green bits in that beautiful smile you have developed after drinking!

If you choose to amp it up a bit, adding 1 scoop of protein powder will give this an extra boost.
